Birchwood achieved Children's Centre status in October 2003. It is one of Hertfordshire County Council's six Children's Centres that provide a variety of services to families in the County.

In March 2004 The Rt. Hon. Margaret Hodge, MBE, MP, Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families, visited the Centre to see for herself the extent of the services we offer the local community.
